Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-06-01
Last updated: 2026-06-01
Once Upon America (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Once Upon America mobile application and the onceuponamerica.us website (together, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Children's privacy is addressed separately on our Children's Privacy page.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the Service:
- Account information. Email address and (optional) name when you create a parent account. Subscription state is managed by Apple or Google and synced to your account.
- Profile information. The first name and age band you provide for each child profile, so the app can surface age-appropriate stories.
- Usage information. Which stories were played and for how long, used solely to power the in-app history and "continue listening" surface.
- Device information. Operating system version, app version, and a randomly generated install identifier, used for crash reporting and product analytics.
- Marketing communications. If you give us your email for product updates, we record your opt-in status.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, microphone, camera input, or social-graph data.
2. How we use information
- To provide and operate the Service.
- To process subscriptions and manage account state.
- To respond to support requests.
- To improve the product (e.g., understand which stories play to completion).
- To send transactional and (with consent) marketing email.
3. How we share information
We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. We use a small number of service providers under contractual confidentiality obligations:
- Cloud hosting: Google Cloud / Firebase.
- Email delivery: Brevo.
- Analytics & crash reporting: Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.
- Payments: Apple and Google handle all subscription payments; we do not see payment card data.
We disclose information when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of users.
4. Children's privacy
Once Upon America is made for children ages 4–10 and is designed to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Parents create and control all accounts and child profiles. See our Children's Privacy page for the full disclosure, including the categories of information collected via child profiles and parents' rights of access, deletion, and refusal.
5. Your choices and rights
You can request access, correction, or deletion of your account data at any time by emailing privacy@onceuponamerica.us. You can opt out of marketing email through the unsubscribe link in any message or by emailing us.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for advertising. To exercise any right, contact privacy@onceuponamerica.us.
6. Data retention
We retain account and profile information while your account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion so we can comply with legal obligations. Usage logs are retained for up to 24 months and then deleted or aggregated.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (encryption in transit, scoped access, audit logging). No system is perfectly secure; if we ever become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
8. International users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify subscribed users by email and post the updated policy here with a new “Last updated” date.
